Building bridges

The Royal State visit of the Dutch Queen Beatrix to Norway, early June 2010, had a focus on collaboration between Norway and Holland.

MareLife was then invited to give input to an ongoing discussion on the development of a renewed fisheries innovation platform concept in the Netherlands.

A 'Diner Pensant' was organised by Doeke Faber, the President of the Product Board for Fish, a semi-governmental organization in which participate representatives of the whole fish chain, including fishermen, trade, processors, retail and also the labour organizations.

FFisheries innovation

    Where MareLife members see opportunities:
    • Collaborate on exploiting living ocean resources with a lot more yield and yet more sustainable: harvest pressure on more fish species (horizontal pressure, lower the pressure on the few), harvest on more species throughout the food chain (algae, zooplankton, included)
    • Collaborate on advancing fishery technologies with emphasis on cost efficient and low carbon foot print operations
